I have been here twice, once in 2017 and once a week ago (2024), and I know that their Tonkatsu has remained the same since it looks exactly the same as it did 7 years ago. Regardless, I had a good experience here overall, and I would recommend it to people if they ask about Japanese food within the Twin Cities. For the agedashi tofu, our server poured the liquid after the tofu was brought to our table, which was the first time I have seen it done that way in the Twin Cities. The tonkatsu contained a good amount of rice and meat which was great, but the "potato salad" was bland, which I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be the case. Having some cucumbers and grape tomatoes was good for me, but I still wasn't sure if that was normal. Regardless, I liked it. Other than those, I enjoyed the ramen and the chicken kara.age as well. They were as good as I imagined they would be. In terms of the nigiri and maki rolls, I thought they were overpriced and there were not enough to fill up my friend's stomach. She had to order additional rolls to ensure that she could get a decent amount of food to be full. Our bill accumulated quickly and ended up being beyond what we had expected. One thing I would also mention is that Kyatchi is located in a good location that makes it very convenient for those in the King Field area to go there, including walking. If people ask me to recommend 5 Japanese restaurants in the Twin Cities, then I would mention this establishment.

Good sushi and good service! There's plenty of other dishes to try like ramen, rice toppings, and a variety of drinks. For kids they even have ramune on top of your regular soda selection; Cool ambiance with a Japanese baseball theme. Worth it for a date or even a group dinner!

Quiet little joint with delicious sushi, rolls, and surprisingly, delicious hotdogs. Lots of beer and sake options. Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu.

If you're looking for a Japanese restaurant in South Minneapolis, you might want to check out this place. While there's no Japanese chef or server on-site, the restaurant offers a beautiful Japanese-themed décor and a menu of delicious Japanese cuisine that has earned it multiple awards, including Best Sushi Award by City Pages and by Mpls St. Paul Magazine. Interestingly, it has also won the award for Best Hot Dog by Star Tribune and People Magazine. During our visit, I ordered one of my favorites, the "Chef Sashimi Platter," which consisted of colorful and beautifully presented salmon (sake), scallops (hotate), sea bass (Suzuki), Pacific yellowtail (Hamachi), and albacore tuna (bincho). Each piece was well-prepared and incredibly fresh, as promised. While the restaurant didn't have the popular Udo noodle soup, the ramen noodle soup was still quite good. The restaurant is located in a small business district on Nicollet Ave S, and our waitress Kathleen, dressed in a Girl Scout-like uniform, was very friendly and provided excellent service throughout our meal. One of the most interesting aspects of this restaurant was that when the bill came, there was no place for a tip. We were told that the general tip was already built into the charges, but additional tips are always welcome. This was an interesting and unique touch. I highly recommend giving it a try!

My daughter and I visited Kyatchi in the summer of 2022 and loved it so much we remembered it to return almost exactly a year later, this summer 2023. If I'd reviewed it then I'd have given it 5 stars. This summer, what a disappointment it was! We specifically loved their seaweed salad, which had been unlike all others because it contained at least 3 types of seaweed. Between the three of us, we ordered 4 - only they were sold out. Boo. But you know, sometimes it happens... But then we ordered a cocktail and they were sold out of that too. Huh? And then to top it off, our waiter was terrible. He was sullen and got FOUR things wrong with our order. When I pay $250 for dinner for three people the least I expect is that the order is correct. The sushi was good - but in the twin cities there are tons of other options that offer good sushi for half the price. Go there. High note: The "summer role" sushi roll ($30) was phenomenal

Had a great lunch here: high quality, great flavors, appealingly plated. Tried a few different types of sushi and will definitely come back to try more of their menu. A fair price for the quality and service.

The food was excellent at Kyatchi. It’s just that I spent so many years in Japan, and the price I pay for the same type of food here seems so high. But that’s probably not fair at all to Kyatchi and other local Japanese restaurants so I kept five stars for this review. The food is authentic and the menu choices are rather unique, like Age-bitashi Donburi, which is something my mother used to cook. Yakisoba dog was great too which is typically served without a hotdog in Japan, along with traditional potato salad made with Japanese mayo and chopped up cucumber, also something my mother used to make. Hitachino beer is hard to find here, but they had two kinds. I had a glass of Yuzu lager which I highly recommend. We had a great time and we will be coming back.

We got there when they opened at 4pm on a Tuesday. It was mellow and the perfect time to enjoy their happy hour menu. We got a 6pc roll with scallop and yuzu, very subtle and satisfying flavor. The Suntory Toki drink was like an effervescent light beer, not something I’d order again. However, the junmai ginjo was the perfect refreshment to pair with the karaage. Lastly, we ordered the Tarasando; enjoyable if you’re in the mood for a hot dog styled fish sandwich. In the past I’ve ordered the curry and it’s one of my favorite things I’ve ordered! Next time we’re in Minneapolis I’m sure we’ll be back to try more :) Side note: service was great!
